Working on a mac gives you a whole different experience when you know some of the most useful Mac keyboard shortcuts. In this article, I am going to tell you about some of those mac shortcut keys which will enrich your experience on your MacBook or iMac. The keyboard shortcuts which I am gonna tell are categorized under different popular applications we use.

Mac Keyboard Shortcuts that You Need to Know

Let’s get started with the categories for the top Mac shortcut keys, which will save your time as well enrich the working experience on Mac.

Basic Mac Shortcut Keys

⌘ + F

You can find any phrase or word on a page or in a document using this shortcut key for mac.

⌘ + H

This shortcut key hides the currently running applications on your screen, in the manner they were accessed so you won’t need to minimize them manually.

⌘ + Z

This shortcut key is my personal favorite. It can undo the mess that you wanna revert back. Just like Ctrl + Z in Windows.

⌘ + Shift + Z

This is a redo function which reverts back the changes which were undone by the ⌘ + Z.

Control + D

There is no such unique key for deleting the text in front of the cursor like the Delete key does in the windows machines. You will need to use Control + D for deleting the text in front of the cursor.

⌘ + Arrow

Using ⌘+ right arrow will take you to the right most of the line in which your cursor is present, similarly ⌘ + left arrow key will take you to the leftmost of the line.⌘ + Up arrow will take your cursor to the top of the page and ⌘ + Down key will take your cursor to the bottom of the page.

⌘ + Delete

This shortcut key will move the item in the trash. On further modifying this shortcut key as ⌘ + Shift + Delete will make the trash bin empty.

⌘ + Shift + 3

This is one of the most needed Mac shortcut keys, which allows you to take the screenshot of the whole screen and will save the screenshot on your desktop. Modifying this shortcut key as ⌘ + Shift + Control + 3 will copy the screenshot to the clipboard.

⌘ + Shift + 4

This is also one of the most needed Mac shortcut keys, which allows you to take the screenshot of the required part of the screen and will save the screenshot on your desktop. Modifying this shortcut key as ⌘+ Shift + Control + 4 will copy the screenshot to the clipboard.

Mac keyboard shortcuts for word

⌘ + N

This command creates a new word file.

⌘ + O

Using this command you can open the existing word file in the system.

⌘ + W

You can close the currently open word document by using this mac shortcut key.

⌘ + S

Command + S is used to save the document so that you can access it in future

⌘ + Z

This command is a bliss for everyone who uses Word. You can undo the mistakes by using this useful mac keyboard shortcut.

⌘ + Y

If you have undone the right work through ⌘ + Z, then this command will help you in Redo the work.

⌘ + Q

This command will quit the Word application, but if you haven’t saved the document, then it will ask you to save it or close without saving.

⌘ + A

Selection of the whole text document can be done through this keyboard shortcut key.

⌘ + X

Use this shortcut key for the ‘cut’ procedure of any text in the document.

⌘ + C

You can copy a word, para or any part of the document through this shortcut key for mac.

⌘ + V

This command is useful after using the ‘Copy’ or ‘Cut’ command. This command pastes the content which has been either copied or cut.

⌘ + B

Using this command can create the Bold of the selected text.

⌘ + I

Changing the selected text into italic form can be done through this shortcut key.

⌘+ U

You can create an underline for the text through this command.

⌘ + Shift + ‘+’ 

This mac shortcut key for Word creates the superscript for a letter.

⌘ + ‘=’

This mac shortcut key for Word creates the subscript for a letter.

Mac excel keyboard shortcuts

⌘ + N

This command opens a new excel file.

⌘ + ⇧ + S

The function of this shortcut key is Save As.

⌘ + ⌥ + R

You can toggle the ribbon by using this shortcut key.

⌘ + Opt + R

This command can Show/hide the ribbon.

⇧ + Space

You can select the whole row by using this short key for mac.

fn + F7

This command will help you to open spelling in excel sheet.

fn + F9

By using this command you can evaluate the formula which you have applied to the columns.

fn + F11

This command will create a new chart for your worksheet.

fn + arrow left

It takes to the beginning of the row.

fn + arrow right

This command takes to the end of the document.

fn + arrow up

It will take you to the one page up in the document.

fn + arrow down

It will take you to the one page down in the document.

fn + option + arrow down

This command moves the one screen right.

fn + option + arrow up

This moves the one screen left.

fn + control + arrow right

Moves to the last cell of the sheet.

fn + control + arrow left

Moves to the first cell of the sheet.

fn + Delete

This works same as the Delete button works in Windows i.e it deletes the text in front of the cursor.
